Electric Bike Conversion, Ok this is Cool

Ok, so I know I have ripped on electric bikes in the past, but this is kind of cool. If something like this is going to get more people on bikes, the I'm all for it.

A good innovation, I wonder

A good innovation, I wonder what are the good points of an electric bike. Please site some of it.

not that great, even dangerous..... but can be improved

it's a good idea, but it's not that safe a system... power on the front wheel, especially not pedal assist but independently accelerating wheel can a) drag you into a crash, b) slide your front wheel while steering due to excess power and added weight to front wheel, and c) make it a lot harder to control your balance and drastically reduce the handling of your bike even when not using the motor. i'm not making this up, i work in a sporting goods store and we had several bikes with front wheel pedal assist motors, and even with just pedal assist motors a lot of people took some dives because of the poor handling and added weight on the front. putting it on the back wheel can make a difference, even if it takes those extra (and i'm being generous) 15 minutes to install your own freewheel or cassette on a kit back wheel, or if you really want to switch frequently from standard to electric motor and back again, you can go that extra inch and spend another 20$ on another same cog size freewheel, and then it really would take just 3 minutes each time you wanted to switch. anyway, if put on the back, the bike amd your ride would really be a lot more stable.
